Etsy Black Friday and Holiday Sales Planning 2026

Etsy Black Friday 2026 planning: a timeline from August to January, what to sell, how to price a discount, set up a sale and meet holiday shipping dates.

By Stallion's TeamReviewed by Rabeel Minhas~9 min read

In short: To prepare for Etsy Black Friday and the holidays, start planning in late summer, not November. Black Friday 2026 is 27 November and Cyber Monday is 30 November. Get gift listings and seasonal versions of your bestsellers live by October, check your margins before choosing a discount, set up the sale in Shop Manager ahead of time, confirm production and shipping deadlines, and tell buyers your last order dates clearly. Then keep selling through December with last-minute and digital gifts.

For most Etsy shops, the last three months of the year bring more gift shoppers than any other season. Shops that do well in that window usually decided most things weeks before: which products to push, what discount they can afford, and how they'll get every order out on time. Below you'll find a timeline and checklist for holiday and Black Friday planning, whether you make products by hand, use a print partner or sell digital downloads.

When is Black Friday 2026 and when should Etsy sellers start planning?

Thanksgiving in the US falls on Thursday 26 November 2026, so Black Friday is Friday 27 November and Cyber Monday is Monday 30 November. Many shoppers start browsing for gifts well before that weekend, so your listings need to be live and indexed early.

WhenWhat to do
August to SeptemberReview last year's sales, choose holiday products, design seasonal versions of bestsellers, order samples
Early OctoberPublish holiday listings, update photos and gift keywords, confirm supplier and print partner holiday deadlines
Late OctoberDecide discounts, set up sales and coupons in Shop Manager, stock up on packaging, plan emails and posts
Early NovemberTease the sale to followers and subscribers, adjust processing times, publish your last order dates
27 to 30 NovemberBlack Friday to Cyber Monday: watch stock, answer messages fast, ship on time

JanuaryReview results, note what sold, remove expired seasonal promotions

Reading this in late October? You're not too late. Focus on the October and November rows and keep the plan small.

What should you sell on Etsy for the holidays?

Holiday shoppers are mostly buying for someone else. The products that do well answer a clear gift question: who is it for, and why is it special?

  • Seasonal versions of what already sells. Your best evergreen design with a winter or festive twist is lower risk than a brand-new idea.
  • Personalised gifts. Names, dates and messages make a product feel chosen. Make sure you can handle the extra time each order takes.
  • Gift sets and bundles. Related items grouped together raise the order value and save the buyer from choosing.
  • Stocking fillers. Lower-priced items that buyers add to an order.
  • Digital gifts. Printables and templates can be bought on 24 December and still arrive on time.

Our seasonal print on demand calendar covers holidays across the whole year, and our Etsy product research service can check demand for your holiday ideas before you make them.

Shoppers search for the item and the recipient, not for "Black Friday". Someone types "personalised dog ornament" or "gift for new grandma", so that's the language your listings need.

  1. Add gift and occasion phrases to titles and tags where they are true, such as "Christmas gift for her", "stocking stuffer" or "teacher gift".
  2. Fill in the holiday and occasion attributes Etsy offers for your category, so filtered searches can find you.
  3. Refresh the first photo with a gift-ready scene: wrapped, styled or shown in a festive setting, without cluttering the product.
  4. Put delivery and personalisation details first in the description. Gift buyers want to know if it will arrive in time and how to add a name.
  5. Mention the sale in the description and photos, not by stuffing "sale" into every title. Titles should still describe the product.

Make these changes in October so your updated listings have time to settle before the busiest weeks.

How deep should your Black Friday discount be?

Only as deep as your margin allows. Etsy's transaction and processing fees are based on what the buyer pays, so they fall a little when you discount, but your own costs don't. A discount that looks small on the price tag can take a large share of your profit.

Here's an example for a US seller: a $30 item with $5 shipping, and $16 of your own costs for materials, packaging and postage. Fees use Etsy's US rates of $0.20 per listing, 6.5% transaction and 3% + $0.25 processing on the order total.

Full price20% off item30% off item
Item price$30.00$24.00$21.00
Order total with $5 shipping$35.00$29.00$26.00
Etsy fees$3.78$3.21$2.92
Your costs$16.00$16.00$16.00
Profit per order$15.22$9.79$7.08

In this example, 30% off cuts profit per order by more than half. You'd need more than twice as many orders to earn the same. Your figures will differ, so run your own numbers before you choose a discount. Our guide to Etsy fees explains each fee if you sell from outside the US.

How do you set up a Black Friday sale on Etsy?

  1. Choose what goes on sale. Discount items with room in the margin. You don't have to discount everything.
  2. Open Shop Manager, go to Marketing and then Sales and discounts.
  3. Create the sale with a percentage or amount off, the listings it covers, and start and end dates. Set it up in advance so it starts on time even if you're busy.
  4. Create a coupon code as well if you want to reward email subscribers or followers with something extra.
  5. Check a listing as a buyer once the sale starts, to make sure the price and shipping look right.
  6. Update your shop announcement and banner with the sale dates and your last order dates.

Other offers can work as well as a straight discount: a gift-ready option, a bundle price, or free shipping above an order amount built into your prices. Pick one or two clear offers rather than five confusing ones.

How do you plan fulfilment and holiday shipping deadlines?

A sale you can't fulfil turns into late orders, cancellations and poor reviews in the busiest weeks of the year. Plan capacity before you plan promotion.

  • Set realistic processing times for your busiest week, not your normal week. Update them in your listings and shipping profiles before the rush.
  • Confirm your production partner's holiday cut-offs if you use print on demand, and add a buffer.
  • Check your carriers' published holiday shipping deadlines for domestic and international orders.
  • Publish your last order dates for Christmas delivery in your announcement, listings and message replies.
  • Stock up early on materials, packaging and labels for physical products.
  • Batch tasks: print labels and pack orders in set sessions each day.
  • Test digital downloads so files open correctly and the instructions are clear.

How do digital product sellers plan for the holidays?

Digital downloads have no shipping deadlines, which makes them useful right up to the last days before Christmas. They still need planning:

  • Publish seasonal designs early, such as holiday printables, gift tags, planners for the new year and party templates, so they're found before demand peaks.
  • Test every file on the devices and apps your buyers use, and include clear instructions for printing or editing.
  • Say "instant download" clearly in the title, photos and description, because late shoppers look for it.
  • Plan a late-December push on social media and email aimed at people who missed physical shipping dates.

Should you run Etsy Ads during the holidays?

It can make sense, because more shoppers are searching. Advertise only listings that already sell without ads and still make a profit at your sale price. Lower margins during a sale also raise the return on ad spend you need to break even. Watch spend daily during the peak and pause ads on any item that runs low on stock or slips behind on dispatch. Our Etsy Ads guide shows how to work out your break-even point.

How do you promote your Etsy holiday sale?

  • Email your subscribers a week ahead with a preview, again when the sale opens, and once before it ends.
  • Post teasers on the one or two social platforms you use, showing the products that will be on sale.
  • Use Share & Save links in your posts and emails, so qualifying orders earn back part of your transaction fee.
  • Pin gift-focused images on Pinterest early, because people plan gifts there weeks ahead.
  • Reward past buyers who opted in to your email list with early access or a coupon.

Never promise buyers "limited" stock or a "last chance" that isn't true. Honest urgency, such as a real end date or a real shipping cut-off, works and keeps trust.

What should you do during the busy weeks?

  • Answer messages quickly. Gift buyers often ask one question before ordering.
  • Watch what sells and feature it in your shop sections, posts and emails.
  • Raise processing times early if orders get ahead of you. That beats missing dispatch dates.
  • Use saved replies for common questions about delivery dates and personalisation.
  • Take short breaks. Mistakes in personalised orders rise when you're exhausted.

What should you do after Cyber Monday?

December still matters. Shift your messaging to last-minute gifts, promote digital downloads that arrive instantly, and keep last order dates up to date. Once your shipping cut-off passes, say so clearly so buyers aren't disappointed.

In January, review the season while it's fresh:

  • Which products and listings sold most, and which got views but no orders?
  • Which discount or offer worked, and what did it do to your profit?
  • Where did delays or mistakes happen, and what would prevent them next year?
  • Which channel brought the most outside traffic?

Write the answers down. Next year's plan starts with them. If you want a second opinion on your holiday plan, our Etsy shop optimization service reviews listings, pricing and shipping before the rush.

Key takeaways

  • Black Friday 2026 is 27 November and Cyber Monday is 30 November; holiday listings should be live by October.
  • Seasonal versions of bestsellers, personalised gifts, bundles and digital gifts suit holiday shoppers.
  • Check what a discount does to profit per order before you choose one.
  • Set up sales in Shop Manager ahead of time and publish clear last order dates.
  • Plan production and shipping capacity before promotion, and review results in January.

Frequently asked questions

When should I start preparing my Etsy shop for Black Friday?

Ideally in August or September, with holiday listings live by early October. If you start later, focus on your best sellers, one clear offer and reliable shipping.

Do I have to discount on Black Friday?

No. Some shops do better with gift-ready options, bundles or a small discount on selected items. Only discount where your margin can take it.

Should I put "Black Friday" in my Etsy titles?

We don't recommend it. Buyers search for products and recipients, so keep titles descriptive and mention the sale in the description, photos and shop announcement.

How do I avoid late holiday orders?

Set processing times for your busiest week, confirm your production partner's and carriers' deadlines, and publish last order dates for Christmas delivery.

Are digital products good for holiday sales?

Yes, especially in late December. They're delivered instantly, so they remain an option after physical shipping deadlines pass.
